Current Transformer Protection Unit
  • A major operational risk with current transformers (CTs) is an open circuit condition in the secondary circuit while the primary circuit remains energized.
  • This risk can arise during routine maintenance or from damages to leads or contacts.
  • High voltage transients in this situation may damage the CT winding, potentially leading to further destruction.
  • The HVR Current Transformer Protection Unit (CTPU) offers protection for your CT against these operational risks.
HVR Varistor for High Impedance Relay
  • High impedance relay applications may require an HVR non-linear resistor to limit the CT secondary voltage to a safe level during a maximum internal fault condition.
  • The appropriate HVR non-linear resistor depends on:
    • Relay setting voltage
    • Maximum secondary internal fault current
  • Single HVR discs are suitable for secondary internal fault currents up to 50A rms.
  • For larger fault currents, HVR non-linear resistors with multiple discs connected in parallel are used.
